So, you’re 4 Weeks into 2018. How are those goals coming along?
Well, today starts the 5th week of 2018, meaning there are only 48 more weeks to make sure 2018 is better than 2017. Now, the real question is how are things going so far? Remember, statistically more than 80% of people who set New Year resolutions have already completely abandoned those “Goals” after merely 8% of the year completed. It is a sad but true truth. Ok, I must ask, and many of you may be unwilling to accept or admit, but how many of you have already abandoned your 2018 New Year’s resolutions? Be honest with yourselves, are you still trying to hold onto it at least, or did you completely give up already? Did you start smoking or drinking again, give up on your diet or exercise routine, start waking up later already? Don’t worry, I get it, I’ve been where you are and still struggle with the same challenges we all do! The difference is I have a better plan, a system to ensure consistent daily progress towards my goals, do you?
Welcome to part 5 in our 10-part series, we are half way there!
Today we will discuss the 4th way on my list of 10, which is to now learn, and know, what is critical to your company, and how to impact it. This may seem similar to the 3rd way we discussed in the last blog, however it is immeasurably different, in that now we are discussing what is “absolutely critical to your organization, AND how to impact it”. What I mean by that is that there are several initiatives and programs that are important to an organization, but what is absolutely critical is far more impactful. And as such has more significance to being able to impact your career. You see something that is absolutely critical, basically means your company can’t do without. Welcome to Part 4 in our series.
Today, we will discuss the third way on my list which is to Know what is important to your company. This is important for anyone wanting to be successful within an organization, but exceptionally important to someone wanting to leap ahead in the ranks, particularly at a rapid pace. You see, by knowing what is important to your company, you can establish yourself as someone who is knowledgeable and capable in that area. Whether it is a specific project, a new venture, or some other initiative, by knowing what is important to the company, you can strategically put yourself in a key position of influence and become a point person in that area. This could lead to be a team captain, project coordinator, or some other important leadership role.
It’s a new year and you are very likely considering or discussing making a New Year’s resolution. Well, before you go and make that resolution, I thought it might be helpful for you to understand the true concept of a New Year’s resolution. A resolution is a statement to yourself and everyone else that you are resolving to either do something different, forever, or not do something anymore, again, ever. So, when you think about a New Year’s resolution in that way, you should realize, and take heed, that you are making a deal with yourself and with everyone else for a certain amount of finality. You are resolving, or deciding, to do or not do this thing, period, end of discussion. That is a lot of weight to make on an evening at the stroke of midnight, with a glass of champagne in your hand, swept up in the emotion of the moment.
