If when you woke up today, you stopped to look at the calendar, you likely realized that we are now officially through the 1st half of 2018 and beginning to progress into the 2nd half. Yes, already… And by now you should know what that means, it’s time to take stock in our 2018 goals and see how we are progressing!
For some of us, this is a wonderful time to reflect on everything we have accomplished to this point. If you started out at the beginning of 2018 with some very ambitious goals and you have made some major progress. Great for you. Keep IT UP!!!
Sticking to one’s goals in the weeks and months after setting them is a key performance indicator that you are on the right path and committed to achieving these goals! Take time to celebrate how hard you have worked, recognize the commitment, drive, and energy you have invested. Take time to be thankful for the blessings in your life, the gifts you have been given and exciting things that this progress has already brought your way.
Now, while you are celebrating and thankful, don’t forget there is still work to be done! We still have 6 more months left and depending how far along you are on your goal, you may still have a lot more work to do, or you may have even surpassed what you anticipated – OUTSTANDING! Don’t back off now, because you are “In the Zone” and taking advantage of what I call the “Momentum Principle”. The Momentum principle is a fantastic place to be, things are happening almost effortlessly, and progress is screaming forward! It doesn’t always last, so take advantage of it as long as you can, ride that wave.
Now, if you are not celebrating and excited about your success thus far, that is ok too. You see, you can always course correct at any time, and a half year review is a perfect time to assess your progress and decide if now is time to make some significant adjustments to your strategies and tactics. The best part about doing it now, is you still have a whole 6 months left! Remember, are you a glass half-full kind of person, or a glass half-empty kind of person? So, just like some of your counter-parts who have crushed their goals in the first 6 months of 2018, you can do that for your goals in the last 6 months of 2018 and still achieve your goals in the time-line you set.
A crucial point here is that the key with an evaluation of your progress to this point, is to recognize what has been working and what hasn’t. Stop doing what isn’t working and focus on doing more of what is working, and then adjust accordingly. Even an entire revamp of your plan should not be out of consideration, particularly if things haven’t been progressing to your liking. However, if things are moving but not as quickly as you would like, then be super critical of how much time and energy you are putting into these goals. Depending on your goals, applying 5 to 10 hours per week of focused and concentrated energy, should be enough to launch your goals into hyper-drive.
Also remember, how fast you get there is not nearly as important as getting there AND all that pales in comparison to the personal growth you experience in the process of achieving your goals!
Finally, for those of us, who just have not seen any progress, not because we took action and it didn’t work, but because we didn’t take action, or we did for a few days or weeks and lost track, don’t’ despair. As I told the last group, there are still 6 whole months left to make some serious progress! However, you must get off the sofa and go do something, not just today, and tomorrow, because you are excited, but everyday for the next 180 days to see real progress!
Even when you are “not feeling it”, “tired”, or whatever other excuse you tell yourself, the only way you will design your life the way you want it to be, is to set goals that are in alignment with your values and life purpose, then take action to move you towards those goals every day. Weeks and months from now, you will feel the difference. You will feel motivated and encouraged to push through and keep moving forward.
Then a year or two passes and you realize you are enjoying your life and the progress you are making. Life is good and you are excited to take on each day with purpose and focus. And then suddenly, you wake up one day and realize you are living your life on purpose, instead of trying to find purpose. Congratulations, you have arrived, and only phenomenal things lie ahead for you! Now, don’t give up and get out there and make it happen TODAY!
