Regardless of your situation, whether you are already building your own business, working your side hustle to get it going, or are in the career you love, each day will require significant amounts of energy to give it your all. Let alone having anything left for your friends, family, or loved ones when you get home. Taking diligent care of yourself is one of the most important things you can do on your quest for success.
The three ingredients to having a fruitful life include plenty of sleep, quality food, and strenuous exercise.
Humans were not designed to sit at a desk all day banging on a keyboard, driving for hours at a time, nor sitting in meetings listening to someone drone on about mission statements. We were designed to set out and conquer new challenges, we are goal seeking creatures. We are not happy unless we are moving forward, but to do so, you must have adequate energy to keep going throughout your day. These three basic components are necessary to ensure you have enough energy to get through the day.
What is the Most Important Meal of the Day?
Let's start with your food, not only what you eat, but when. We all know that healthy food is not just linked to our physical well-being, but your mental health as well. Anyone that’s ever referred to themselves as “hangry” is familiar with this feeling. This is what happens when we don’t give our bodies enough nutrients, so our body and mind are giving us very clear signals that it is time to eat. Here is the kicker though, that hunger pang is like the emergency alarm, by the time it kicks in, you are already well on your way to a headache, irritibleness, and a downright cranky attitude.
Worse yet, once your body has crossed over to this point, it has already begun to burn muscle tissue for energy, instead of fat the way your body should. So not only are you lacking mental focus, but your body is not functioning properly. How’s that for derailing a productive day? Allowing yourself to reach this point is never good and worse each time you do it to yourself.
Therefore, the most important meal of the day is every meal. For most people that is 4 to 5 times per day, with 300 to 500 calories. This regimen gives you just enough calories to go 3 hours until the next meal and keeps your body burning the food you ate for energy instead of gorging and creating a rush of blood going to the stomach to digest food and putting you in a “food coma”, which also is not good for productivity.
There is a ton we could discuss on food, but simply put, quality healthy food, consumed multiple times per day is much better for your body and mental health. Also, your body requires as much as a gallon of water per day. Drinking throughout the day in 12 to 20-ounce increments is ideal, and your body will thank you immensely.
Get your Sleep
Yawning is a fairly common occurrence after all, but did you know yawning indicates fatigue, and fatigue leads to even bigger problems. Fatigue dramatically reduces your ability to effectively think and operate. Many people misunderstand how important sleep is and the impact that a lack of sleep can have on your ability to fight fatigue and keep your energy level high. Stress comes naturally when you are challenged, and even more so when you are stretching yourself, as you would when try to achieve a new goal. Your body needs sleep to rejuvenate your muscles and organs, and your mind needs to rest to recoup from the mental stress. Not getting enough sleep is affecting your body and your mind in a negative way.
Anyone who hasn’t got much sleep for some reason knows all too well how much of an impact this has on your attitude and personality. One or two days will take a toll but imagine how you would feel after weeks of being sleep deprived. Add to this challenge of your body being weak from exerting massive energy on your quest to achieve success and it doesn’t take long to see why people would quit if they aren’t taking care of their bodies.
A last comment on sleep, know how much you need. The average is between 6 to 8 hours a day, some go 9 or 10, others say they can get by on 5 or less. Here’s what I will say, I have for much of my life been content on 5 ½ to 6 ½ hours. At times needing a bit more if I am exercising more than normal or have a great deal more stress, but this is a suitable number for me, and everyone needs to find their number. However, I will say, I have yet to meet or hear about someone super successful who didn’t get up early, like 4am or 5am, and slept more than 8 hours on a regular basis. As Arnold Schwarzenegger would say, “You should only need to sleep 6 hours, this gives you 18 hours to get everything done each day, and if you say ‘well, I sleep 8 or 9 hours’, well then I say sleep faster”.

Our body is designed to heal itself. Despite all the stress we put on it, mentally and physically, our bodies will heal with few repercussions from the strain we put on them, unless we don’t take care of our bodies. Regular, strenuous exercise is also a vital component to keep yourself healthy. If the exercise is too strenuous this can be detrimental, but the exercise must push you each day to continue to strain your muscles, which leads to rebuilding your muscles and making them stronger.
Regular strenuous exercise is also good for stress release. Expending your energy to accomplish some physical task is good for recognizing how much more you can push yourself, as well as the endorphins you secrete when you achieve worthy goals are very healthy for your body. Additionally, physical exertion allows you rest more effectively. Lastly, a regular workout routine helps build mental discipline for challenging and pushing yourself, which you will absolutely need as you strive to achieve your goals and move towards success.
Leading a quality life while striving for your goals to achieve success is not difficult at all. It just requires some lifestyle changes which you can embrace using a few simple guidelines and taking baby steps. Start with a calorie-controlled diet of quality food and remain hydrated throughout the day. Get a good night's sleep and buy a nice pair of gym shoes to work out in.
Take care of your body to maximize your success potential, you will need all the advantages you can muster in your quest and ensuring your health is top notch is just one more advantage.
Best of luck. Get your rest and have wonderful week!
