I know that heading sounds a bit “out there” right? Well, the reality of that statement is unbelievably true. Let me start with this, a study done by the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD), found that you are 65% more likely to complete a goal simply by sharing your goal. And, if you incorporate an accountability appointment with a person you know, like, and trust, you increase your chance of achieving that goal to 95%! However, you should already know this, if you read my book Success with Goals. You would already understand this value, but that is not today’s Goal Hack I am about to share with you, nope, this additional hack will increase your chances 10-fold. Do you want to know more? Read on…
So, by simply committing to a goal, sharing it with someone who you admire and respect, and then putting a date on it improves your chances of achieving that goal to as much as 95%, pretty exciting huh? Well, as cool as that sounds, you see that’s just the tip of the iceberg! I have a tip that will most assuredly have you streaming towards your goals, in record time, and have you achieving the type of goals people spend their whole life contemplating whether or not to start. While everyone else is thinking about things, and talking about what they might do, some day, if you follow my advice, you’ll be running past those people getting things done!
So, what is this hack? Well, to be fair it’s nothing earth shattering from a new advancement in personal development, quite honestly there hasn’t been much of that for a long time. In fact, most things we coach to in personal development isn’t new, at least not to the general masses, however, it may be new to you. Or it’s value may not be as obvious, and often it is simply how we utilize these tactics, or recognize how we could use them more effectively, that is where the application and more importantly the guidance of a good coach comes in. As mentioned in the opening paragraph, simply using an accountability partner increases your odds of achieving a goal to as much as 95%! If your goal is worth of your time and commitment, isn’t it worth it to you to employ the help of someone who can help you achieve your biggest life goals?
Ok, I sense you are about to burst, so I will share today’s hack with you. It’s simple, but amazingly effective. By taking the commitment and accountability to a whole other level, simply add a routine of reviewing and assessing your goals DAILY! Now, I don’t mean, just look at them, but review your action to this point, what did you do yesterday to move your goals along and what are you going to do TODAY? Did you employ the Rule of 5? What 5 tasks did you do, to move your project along? If your goal is properly broken down into actionable tasks, each day you should be completing 5 things to move those goals along to finalization. Trust me, there is one real truth in life, "What gets measured, gets done!"
If you are reviewing where you are at, daily, in the pursuit of your goal, and by employing even some of the other tactics to achieve what you want most in life, you can’t help but to get better, improve, and ultimately achieve your goals, it’s just that simple. Ah, but is it that simple? Yes, it is simple, the act we are discussing is simple, what is hard is training yourself to be brutally honest with yourself and acknowledge what have you done and what needs to be done next, and then DO IT DAILY!
So as many of you know I am working on completing my next book on time management and as I began to review how I would roll this book out, I wanted to be able to provide a resource that would help people understand and employ this concept. Because this is where Goal Setting stops, and Time Management starts. But I needed to find something, a tool or resource to bridge that gap. I looked at countless journals and planners, both electronically, and manual, as well as many other resources, and in the end, I decided I would need to create what I wanted. However, I made a contact about 6 months ago who read one of my articles on Goalcast and he asked me about possibly working together in some way. And I want to share with you what he designed.
Before I share his new tool, I want to briefly introduce my friend and business partner Casey Moran. Casey and I met about 6 months ago, shortly after he designed his new tool the “True Path” Journal. Casey’s passion for personal development came about a few years ago after selling his business that he created 15 years earlier. After selling his business he had a lot more time on his hands and took time to reflect on his journey. While on a long stint in Costa Rica, he realized that much of his success came from simply using a legal tablet of paper and writing done what needed to be done each day and then following up on it.
As he began to assess this further and everything that went into this process that led to his success, he was able to come up with his concept of True Path. Now to be fair, when Casey first approached me, I thought this guy does a lot of the same work I do, why would I want to partner with him. However, once I met him and then reviewed his process, I realized his journal was the bridge I had been looking for and it was the ideal complement to pick up where my Goal Setting process leaves off and my time management will pick up. It had just about everything I had been looking for, and it was flexible enough to allow people to use it how they saw fit. Order and structure, without being overbearing, I loved it.
So today, I wanted to share with you Casey’s True Path journal which you can get on Amazon for $27, or you can get it from me here for just $25 (includes shipping) as a special promotional offer from my friend, Casey!
